Parking fines

Finding a parking ticket stuck to your car windscreen or receiving a parking fine in the post is a frustrating experience, especially if you feel the parking fine was unfairly issued. And with local authorities issuing record numbers of the Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) each year to car owners, it’s an experience many of us share.

Parking illegally on public roads or not using parking bays correctly can land us with a parking ticket. In situations like this we usually have to accept it's our fault but sometimes the situation isn't always this clear.

Appealing a PCN parking ticket

What are your rights if a parking bay’s markings weren’t visible or road parking signs were missing that day. What if you receive a PCN for a car that’s no longer owned by you or you simply weren't parked where the parking contravention was supposed to have taken place?

Which? Legal can help

Our team of specialist advisers can advise you on your rights when faced with a parking fine and how to appeal a PCN. We can guide you on how to appeal unjustified parking tickets and penalties.

Please note that we cannot advise on:

  • legal proceedings against a local authority
  • penalties relating to other road traffic matters (such as bus lane offences or congestion charge)
  • and any court proceedings relating to the ticket
