Knowing your rights when faced with redundancy

Facing the loss of your job is a difficult situation to deal with. Perhaps the business you work for is closing or relocating, or your employer is reducing staff numbers. Whatever the reason, you’ll want to know if your employer is acting in accordance with redundancy law, and what you’re entitled to if you leave.

You may have certain rights under employment law, including the right to redundancy pay and the right to meaningful consultation with your employer about alternatives. Your employer should treat you fairly, and knowing what is owed to you will give you the confidence to move forward.

Which? Legal can help

Discuss your situation with us over the phone with our friendly solicitors who specialise in redundancy law and are experienced in resolving all kinds of issues with the process.

Common questions we can answer include:

  • Is my employer doing things right?
  • What is my statutory redundancy entitlement?
  • Can I challenge my company’s decision to make me redundant?
  • Do I have to take the job my employer has suggested as an alternative?
