Your rights to holiday compensation

From a weekend hiking in the Dales, to a fortnight on the beach, we all look forward to time away. But what happens if your holiday company contacts you and tells you the sea-front hotel you carefully selected is overbooked and that you’ll be staying ten miles inland instead. Do you have any consumer rights, and can you claim for holiday compensation?

Holiday problems may also include arriving at the hotel only to discover that the luxurious room you saw in the brochure is a far cry from the one you’ve been allocated in an un-renovated part of the hotel. Can you ask to move rooms or hotels even? What if the only alternative costs more – do you have to pay?

Which? Legal can help

Whether the food on the all-inclusive holiday you booked is inedible or half the amenities featured in the brochure are missing, the Which? Legal lawyers and specialist advisers can give you expert legal advice on your holiday consumer rights. These may include:

  • making a claim against your tour operator for compensation of out-of-pocket expenses, loss of enjoyment and loss of value
  • understanding your consumer rights on holiday, and the steps you can take to get your holiday put right or to seek compensation
  • advising you on the correct steps to take so you can seek legal redress with a holiday company, travel agent or tour operator

At Which? Legal, we believe that legal advice isn’t reserved for major problems. To us, no issue or question is too small. You can get advice from our team of legal experts on disappointing hotels facilities and other problems that end up costing you money and ruining your trip.
