Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982

The Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982

This piece of legislation covers most contracts for services that are provided by a trader to a consumer.

It implies into these contracts a requirement that the work will be carried out:

  • with reasonable care and skill
  • in a reasonable time (if there is no specific time agreed); and
  • for a reasonable charge (if no price for the work was agreed )

If any materials or goods are supplied under the contract, for example appliances as part of a kitchen installation, they must be:

  • as described
  • of satisfactory quality
  • fit for their purpose
