When your car breaks down, you depend on your garage to get you back on the road – and to treat you fairly. But it’s not unusual to have a bad experience with a mechanic. The fault might reoccur very soon, or something else might suddenly go wrong. You might have reason to wonder if substandard parts have been used, or unnecessary work was done. Or you might just be surprised at the amount you’ve been charged, and wonder if there’s anything you can do to challenge the bill.
Repair work is covered by consumer rights legislation and must be carried out to a good standard. If you’ve got a problem with or a question about your repair, it’s worth taking it up with the garage. You’re paying for their work, so you’re entitled to ask questions about what they’ve done and why. If you aren’t satisfied with the response you get, you may be able to get your complaint referred to a dispute resolution provider.
We’ll help you understand the steps you can take to get the matter resolved with the garage. Our legal experts can tell you what your rights are, what steps the garage is obliged to take, and who to speak to if you still aren’t happy. We’ll:
