Our team of specialist advisers come from a variety of professional backgrounds and are among the UK's leading lawyers in consumer and employment law, with over 200 practising years' experience between them. Our l​egal advisers are regularly asked to give their legal opinion on TV, radio and in the press.

Paula Afrifa

Paula qualified as a solicitor in 2013 and joined Which? Legal in November 2015. She has previously worked in private practice based in London, and within the legal aid sector. Paula has extensive experience of litigation, welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment and family law.

Paula provides both telephone and email advice on a range of areas including consumer law, employment, motoring offences, tenancy and neighbour disputes. She finds that the best part of her job is being able to help members achieve a successful outcome.

Dominique Butler

Dominique joined Which? in December 2017 as a Legal Adviser and provides advice on consumer law. After graduating with a law degree in 2012, Dominique gained several years experience working for the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline and also working in legal expenses insurance. Dominique enjoys helping members take steps to achieve the outcome they are entitled to.

Brendan Donohue

Brendan has over 15 years of experience advising on all aspects of employment law. Having previously worked in private practice, also advising employers, he is able to draw on his insight from both perspectives when helping Which? Legal members tackle their issues.

Bringing his clear and pragmatic approach to every situation, Brendan guides members through their options including, where appropriate, exit strategies. Where the employment relationship has ended, or is coming to an end, Brendan can help achieve the appropriate terms of departure through our settlement agreement service. Brendan joined Which? Legal in 2018.

Espe Fuentes

Espe ​is a solicitor and ​joined Which? Legal in July 2006. She advises on all aspects of consumer law as well as employment, holiday and travel, tenancy, parking violations and neighbour disputes. Espe's previous experience is varied, and ranges from commercial law to criminal law. She enjoys clarifying legal points for our members and advising them on the legal issues that affect their everyday lives.

Espe has dealt with media requests for Which? Legal, providing comments to journalists and interviews for local radio.​

Paul Handford

With over 20 years of varied legal experience, Paul now specialises in private client work, which includes drawing up wills, deeds of trust, lasting powers of attorney and pre-nuptial agreements. He advises on care home fees, severing joint tenancies, inheritance tax and estate planning, and applying for probate or letters of administration.

Paul is also experienced in administering estates for the executor or administrator, and applications to act as a deputy in the Court of Protection.

In his spare time, Paul likes to garden, keep bees, study history and act as an army cadet instructor.

Ian Hawkins

Ian joined Which? Legal in 2016 and advises on consumer law. He graduated in Law in 2011 and has worked within the legal expenses industry. He provides advice on consumer law and thoroughly enjoys informing our members of their consumer rights, and helping them to resolve their issues.   

Shona Hirons

Shona is a chartered legal executive and joined Which? Legal in June 2016. She advises on all aspects of consumer law, as well as holiday and travel, landlords, parking violations, neighbour disputes, motoring offences and employment law.

Shona's previous experience includes working as an in-house lawyer and litigating on all aspects of consumer and employment law, clinical negligence and management.

Victoria Helps

Victoria joined Which? Legal in 2016. Before that, Victoria worked as a legal adviser for seven years at The Co-operative Legal Services. Victoria helped to set up and now manages Legal's Bristol team and provides advice on a range of consumer law issues and neighbour disputes.

Victoria particularly enjoys the range of queries that our savvy members raise with us and finds it very satisfying when members feedback on their successes.

Sarah Henley

Sarah trained and worked in private practice in Bristol before joining Which? Legal as a qualified solicitor in January 2018. Sarah provides advice to members on wills, probate and lasting powers of attorney.

Thomas Holloway

Thomas joined Which? at the beginning of 2018 as a legal adviser, focusing on consumer law. Thomas graduated from the University of Reading with a law degree in 2016 and went on to complete the LPC the following year at the University of Law in London, while also receiving an MSc in Law, Business and Management.

Thomas has experience working in legal expense insurance, providing advice to policy holders. He now supports our members through their consumer disputes.

Evgeni Hristov

Evgeni joined Which? Legal in December 2017 as a consumer law adviser. Evgeni graduated law at the University of the West of England in 2014. He has varied experience in the legal expenses industry and has advised clients on a wide range of areas of law including consumer, employment and property law.

Aisha Khokhar

Aisha joined Which? Legal in Decemeber 2017 as a consumer law adviser. She graduated in Law in 2013 and has experience with local authority within the transport department. She provides consumer law advice and thoroughly enjoys informing our members of their rights and providing practical steps to try and resolve any issues they have.

Chris Lam

Chris joined Which? Legal in 2014 as paralegal adviser. He started training as solicitor with Which? Legal in January 2015, gaining experience in employment law and commercial/intellectual property through internal (in-house) and external (private practice) secondments.

Chris qualified as a solicitor in January 2017 and now advises on travel, consumer law and employment law.

Peter Litchman

Peter qualified as a solicitor in 2003 and joined Which? Legal as a legal adviser in January 2007. He advises on all aspects of consumer law, tenancy issues and neighbour disputes.

Before joining Which? Legal, Peter worked for many years in a variety of legal roles within the insurance sector. Peter finds the most satisfying part of working for Which? Legal is helping members get a good result.

Donna Mahoney

Donna first joined Which? in October 1995. She began re-training in law in 2010 and moved to the Which? Legal team in July 2013. Having now completed the academic stage of her studies with Cilex, she is currently completing her qualifying employment to be admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

Donna advises on wills and probate matters and consumer law.

Ronan Mulqueeney

Ronan joined Which? Legal in 2018 as an employment law specialist. Ronan trained and qualified as a solicitor in private practice in 2003 and worked for a number of years in a law centre specialising in employment and discrimination law for workers. He has provided representation at preliminary and final hearings at employment tribunals. He completed a Masters in Human Rights Law at Bristol University in 2011.

Ronan has taught law to university students and has provided training on employment law. He is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA). At Which? Legal, Ronan offers advice on all employment law issues including settlement agreements. By providing practical, tailored advice based on the facts of each situation, Ronan makes sure members are fully informed and empowered to exercise their employment rights to try and resolve their dispute. This may include advice on litigation and/or settlement out of court.

Richard Murton

Richard started work with Which? Legal in August 2009. He provides advice to members by telephone and email on a wide variety of consumer law issues, as well as landlord and tenant problems.

Before joining Which? Legal, he worked for a number of years as a lawyer in private practice dealing with a range of civil and commercial litigation, as well as divorce, employment and criminal work. He also worked for the Magistrates Court.

Richard enjoys the opportunity to help members understand their legal rights. He finds it very rewarding to receive feedback from members who have successfully resolved their legal issues.

Sarah Price

Sarah joined Which? Legal in February 2016 as a legal adviser, giving guidance on consumer law, holiday and travel, neighbour disputes, parking, and landlord and tenant issues.

After graduating with a law degree in 2007, Sarah gained invaluable experience working in the energy and lettings industries. She also gained several years' experience in the legal sector before completing her LPC at Cardiff University in 2014.

Prior to joining Which? Legal, Sarah worked for a solicitors specialising in personal injury claims and uninsured loss recovery. She also provided telephone advice under legal expenses policies for insurance companies on all aspects of law.

Sarah enjoys talking to members and gains great satisfaction from assisting members to achieve the outcome they deserve.  

Ben Rossor

Ben joined Which? Legal in 2015 as a wills and probate specialist. Ben trained and qualified in private practice and now advises on a range of legal issues, including estate administration and lasting powers of attorney. He is also qualified to practice in Scotland and is able to offer advice to our members on Scottish issues.

Adrian Schwab

Adrian joined Which? Legal in June 2017 as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. Adrian received his Bachelor in Law degree from the Holborn Law School in 2006. Previously Adrian was a qualified Trading Standards Officer for Buckinghamshire County Council before he transferred to the BCC Legal Department where he became a qualified lawyer.

Before joining Which? Legal Adrian was the Litigation Manager for Thomson Airways (now TUI). Adrian also managed and advised at a LawWorks (the Law Society charity) pro bono clinic for 13 years in Edmonton. In 2015 he was awarded the title of Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year 2015. Adrian advises on all aspects of travel and consumer law, as well as tenancy, traffic law, civil litigation and neighbour disputes.

James Shelton

James joined Which? Legal in June 2017 as a Legal Adviser and is knowledgeable in consumer law, including holidays and travel. He also advises on parking tickets and wills and probate matters.

James graduated from the University of Lincoln with a qualifying law degree in 2016 and went on to complete the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Trent University the following year.

He's currently working towards completing his LLM in Legal Practice. After undertaking an internship at Which? Legal in June 2016, it was clear to him that he wanted to champion the consumer. He set his sights on making sure Which? members are fully informed about their rights and options and is keen to give practical, straightforward advice.

Duncan Snook

Duncan joined Which? Legal as an employment law specialist in May 2018. He has over 10 years of experience as an employment solicitor in private practice, advising employees and employers on a wide range of issues. During this time, Duncan has provided pro bono advice to members of the public through the Manchester Employment Rights Advice Line and (more recently) the Avon and Bristol Law Centre. He is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association (ELA).

Duncan advises our members on any issues they have arising from their employment or its termination, enabling them to make their own informed decisions to resolve their disputes as swiftly and as effectively as possible.
